How to Find the Best Nomad Lifestyle to You?
Usually, it is quite difficult to get something right without diving into our thoughts, beliefs, and feelings first.
The world with its endless options and trends can’t serve as a reliable reference point for what is suitable for us as unique individuals.
Focusing on Self-knowledge
My initial idea of a digital nomad was someone traveling at the highest speed and frequently changing countries, with no ties to refrain from or a fixed routine.
However, as these ongoing changes wound’t align with my lifestyle and temperament, I realized that I would be better as a slow-paced traveler.
Following Your Needs and Tendencies
By traveling slowly I could:
- Genuinely immerse myself in local cultures
- Avoid overloading myself with frequent trip arrangements
- Protect my physical and mental well-being from the effects of constant environment changes
- Maintain a balance with my other commitments, such as work, future plans, meditation, therapy, etc.
- Establish a monthly routine for mental stability
So, before you pack and leave, take the time to gain clarity on who you are and what you need in terms of:
Level of control: Do you prefer to plan everything carefully in advance, or make only some arrangements before the first trip?
Travel style: Do you prefer to travel fast, slow, or a bit of both?
Accommodation: Are you comfortable with shared places or do you need full privacy?
Weather: Do you prefer tropical destinations, mild temperatures, cold places, or whatever?
Hit the inner road first, for a genuine journey!

Overcoming Inner Resistance
While I won’t argue that it’s easy to introspect before making big choices, as it often leads to initial confusion, fear, and distress. If you choose to endure this discomfort, the outcome can be insightful and uplifting.
First, this process can reveal a great deal about yourself:
Beliefs, opinions, and thoughts about specific subjects, lifestyles, and future possibilities.
For example, it can enlighten your personal meaning of becoming a nomad compared to external sources like Google, the media, or input from family and friends.
- Secondly, it gives you an opportunity to identify your strengths and weaknesses regarding the nomadic lifestyle and take action according to your findings, by designing a plan to use existing resources and acquire what is still missing.
* This phase involves both mental and practical work since there is often a disparity between our current state and who we must become to turn our plan into reality.
In my case, I lacked knowledge about planning a trip as a nomad, as my previous travels involved either short stays or relocation to a new country. So, I had to read and watch loads of content to educate myself on this matter before I could move on with the trip.
- Finally, if you complete the two first steps (without giving up or going crazy), your ability to overcome inner resistance, lack of skills, and fear of the unknown will reach new level!
*You will then only be a few logistical arrangements away from becoming an actual nomad, such as budgeting, bookings, and packing, which I will address in future posts).
As you can see, this journey means more than just global travel, which is incredible on its own. When pursued with mindfulness and purpose, it can foster exponential growth in various aspects – mental, emotional, and spiritual.
So, my advice to anyone considering this path is to take it beyond mere sightseeing, selfies, and entertainment.
Dare to take this opportunity to deeply explore your inner world and draw out the best in yourself.
