Managing Life Changes Without Overwhelm

Have you ever looked back on your life and realized that it didn’t turn out as you expected?

I have, and more than once. There were times when I didn’t like the direction my life was taking and felt the need for a significant change.

If you are feeling generally dissatisfied with your life, the areas that need to be changed probably represent a big part of it, which can be overwhelming and leave you unsure of where to start.

Here is a guide to help you with this.

HOW TO MAKE MAJOR CHANGES WITHOUT FEELING OVERWHELMED

1. Categorize

2. Prioritize

3. Take Mindful Actions

4. Move on to the Next Area

Start by noting down everything you want to change, and then divide these desires into different areas of life, such as:

Personal Fixing or improving your relationship with yourself

–  Physical and mental health

– Hobbies

– Unfulfilled dreams, etc.

Relationships – Fixing or improving your relationship with others

– Solving issues with family, romantic partner, friends, colleagues, etc.

– Learning how to set boundaries

– Welcoming new people into your life, etc.

Finances – Fixing or improving your relationship with money

– Getting financial education

– Overcoming limiting beliefs about money

– Paying off your debts

Career – Fixing or improving your relationship with work

– Setting professional goals

– Making career transitions

– Attaining new skills, etc.)

Once you have categorized everything, create a list prioritized based on urgency, severity, interest, or easiness. This will help you rank the areas according to your preferences:

Urgency: prioritize the area that is causing you the most problems.

Severity: prioritize the area that is most compromising.

Interest: prioritize the area that excites you the most.

Easiness: prioritize the area that will require less effort.

For example, if you have major problems in three areas:

  • Career – Conflicts at work
  • Personal – Anxiety crises
  • Finances – Credit card debts

You could start by working on the area that is most compromising your overall well-being: “Anxiety Crises” (Personal).

By addressing the roots of your anxiety, you might find connections to the other problems on your list.

Here’s a possible scenario:

You might have become too anxious because of the bad work environment, leading to overspending and credit card debts.

Here we have a strategy to gradually address these 3 problems:

Priority list:

  1. Anxiety crises – To regain emotional stability
  2. Conflicts at work – To improve your work conditions or change jobs
  3. Credit card debts (Finance) – To pay off your debts

Recognizing the correlation among different areas of life and using it to address them is a great strategy for solving problems and improving your life as a whole.

Categorize + Prioritize + Take Mindful Actions = More fulfillment.

I hope this guide is a good start for your life changes! 😊
