A while back, I realized I had lost my ability to truly cry.
As a kid, I could cry without a second thought.
But around the age of 13, I started pushing my feelings down, trying to swallow all the fear, hurt, and frustration just to fit in.
That’s probably why my body feels so tense these days—it’s like it got used to never really relaxing.
Adulthood brought its own ups and downs, new beginnings, and goodbyes.
Even though I had so many reasons to cry, I just couldn’t tap into my emotions anymore and let them out.
I ended up repressing a part of what makes us human. It’s no wonder I often felt lost and empty inside.
That’s when I started therapy, which turned out to be my shot at feeling whole again.
I went in feeling all knotted up, carrying around over twenty years of holding everything in, visible on my face and in my body.
Where do you even start when there’s so much inside you that just wants to be felt?
How do you figure out what’s okay to face and what’s better left buried?
I wanted to let go of all those heavy feelings, but I worried I’d get overwhelmed by them and forget how to deal with everyday life.
But slowly, those therapy sessions started to help, and I became more at ease with this journey of figuring myself out.
Over time, crying became natural again, especially in moments when no words could express what I was going through.
In that safe space, I cried my heart out a million times—just like the kid I used to be—under the caring gaze of someone I hardly knew.
This simple act showed me the power of honoring my feelings and acknowledging the strength that only reveals itself when we dare to be vulnerable.
