WHY ARE WE SO PRONE TO AVOID SELF-AWARENESS?
Human beings are a complex mix of blind narcissism (immature ego), animal instincts (body), and consciousness (spirit).
The narcissistic and animal-like aspects of us are deeply committed to repetition and immidiate gratification.
Their main goals include:
- Survival
- Connection
- Satisfaction
- Safety
As a result, we often dedicate our lives to fulfilling these intrinsic needs in the fastest and simplest way possible.
In other words, our choices regarding family, friendships, love, sex, work, and money reflect a clear effort to feel:
- Emotionally and physically safe and secure
- Loved, appreciated and cared for
- Useful and important
On the other hand, our conscious side is more interested in expansion and elevated aspirations that benefit the greater good, such as:
- Constant personal and collective growth
- Ethics
- Empathy
- Compassion
- Spirituality
- Fraternity
- Human and animal rights
- Social justice
- Planet preservation
💡 With two-thirds of us pushing toward our comfort zone and only one-third seeking growth and expansion, it’s easy to see why we often remain trapped in the survival dimension instead of moving toward higher levels of fulfillment..
WHY IS IT SO HARD TO GROW AND CHANGE?
Someone who is self-absorbed and focused solely on meeting instinctual needs is limited to the survival dimension for several reasons, including:
1. **Cognitive Immaturity**
The inability to control behaviors and impulses, perform complex functions like logical reasoning, make mindful decisions, and practice delayed gratification.
While this immaturity is normal in children and teenagers, in adults, it indicates serious developmental issues.
2. **Symptoms of Emotional Trauma**
Conditions such as complex post-traumatic stress disorder, antisocial behaviors, and social anxiety.
3. **Low Levels of Self-Awareness**
Individuals who struggle to take accountability for their mistakes, flaws, and limitations.
4. **Severe Health Problems**
Impairements like chronic diseases, personality disorders, depression, addictions, and anxiety.
5. **Poor Moral Compass**
This may manifest as deceptive behavior, manipulation, or criminality.
6. **Hypersensitivity**
People whose emotions are so overwhelming that prevent them from taking rational action and having an accurate perception of reality.
7. **Lack of Assertiveness**
People with an overly agreeable personality who feel victimized and frustrated because they cannot set boundaries in relationships or stand up for themselves.
💡 When survival needs are unmet, we often lack the strength and consistency to pursue more abstract goals, such as achieving emotional intelligence, refining social skills, or shifting mindsets.
It’s like trying to solve a challenging mathematical equation with an empty stomach— you can try, but the chances of success are slim.
HOW TO OVERCOME THIS CONDITION

1. **Follow Your Pain First** – Dive deep into your distress and confront it using tools like journaling, self-reflection, meditation, and counseling
Aim for the opposite polarity; for example, if you are struggling with heartbreak, set goals and take action to achieve emotional detachment and healing.
Otherwise, you risk getting trapped in rumination, grievance, and self-pity indefinitely.
2. **Be Willing to Let Go** – Accept that to thrive in life, you must leave behind old burdens—trauma, resentment, hate, anger, and self-pity regarding past wrongs.
The higher vibrations of prosperity, peace of mind, and success cannot coexist with negative thoughts and feelings.
3. **Reshape Your Identity** Your old personality, shaped by painful past experiences, no longer serves you as you heal and grow.
You need to allow your Self to evolve into a more mature and conscious version.
Just as we had to learn to crawl before we could walk and run, we must also heal emotionally and mature before we can genuinely thrive.
