Sit here right beside me
Feel the breeze petting your cheeks
And playing with your hair
While the sun
sets
before
us
Let me tell you about the river…

Its dark green waters begin
Like a thread
of
hope
downhill
The long, winding bed
Stretches
much
farther
than
the eyes
can
see
Moistening and nourishing
everything
along
the
way
Let’s watch the river carrying with it
Time and space
Breathe
in and out
in its
rhythm,
Vibrating like its waters that also run through us
Let me learn about you…

If you close your eyes
You can
feel them better
Wetting your tongue
down
to
your
throat
These waters tell you who you are
And where you come from
They were the vessel and liquid of your mother’s womb
They are the form and taste of your tears
The waters in you
The waters in rivers
Who have these waters been holding?
What person do they shape and reflect?
If you were a river…
What feelings would you carry downstream?
What ideas would you seed and make flourish out there?

The Greek historian Heraclitis said of time and change, “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not even the same river and he’s not the same man.”
