On Sunday, I went nuts when I heard the phrase:
“And the Oscar goes to I’m Still Here.”
I began screaming right after “I’m Still,” just like almost all Brazilians did.
A few days earlier, I had gone to watch the movie and left the cinema deeply impacted by its moving scenes and powerful message.
In a time filled with hate speech, wars, and the rise of the extreme right, Brazil gifted its people and the world a visceral reminder of what happens within a nation when fascism wins.
I couldn’t be prouder of my culture and art right now! 😎🎉

When Walter Salles took the stage to receive the Oscar for Best International Picture, I felt that the movie’s powerful campaign made its final gesture of love and gratitude.
Salles dedicated his award to Eunice Paiva and her interpreters—Fernanda Torres and Fernanda Montenegro. How beautiful it is to see a man express gratitude for the invaluable role of women in our society!

We owe everything to our mothers regardless of how and if they raised us, as our existence (in every sense) begins within them.
What can be bigger than that?
And when our mothers not only give us life but also love and nurture us despite all the losses, pains, and hardships involved (like Eunice Paiva did), the magnitude of their actions becomes even more invaluable.
This movie is not only a remarkable work of art and political awareness but also a declaration of love on both small and large scales—toward both family and country.

Rubens Paiva was tortured and killed for being a decent man who decided to fight for his family and country.
🌹 In memory of him and all men and women who lost their lives fighting for a better world, we must never forget that:
The family is still here.
Democracy is still here.
Freedom is still here.
This song protests against the dictatorship in Brazil. It was written by Belchior in 1976 and performed by Elis Regina, one of our greatest singers of all time.
