3 Interesting Ways Traveling Can Make You Grow

For me, the magic of traveling lies in the opportunity to embark on a journey beyond ourselves and the familiarities of our culture.

Venturing beyond what I consider normal reminds me that life is much bigger than the confines of my bubble.

At home, where I already “know” what to expect in terms of behaviors and mentalities, I can only glimpse a small part of life.

When I travel, my perspective aligns more closely with my true size—a tiny spot surrounded by the immensity of otherness, which paradoxically makes me feel larger.

While traveling I become a child again:

  • Amazed by every novelty I encounter along the way, whether it is a different species of flower, flavor, or another way of living
  • Excited to perceive how much is out there to explore
  • Humbled by the challenges and fears that arise from engaging with the unknown

HOW TRAVELING BENEFITS OUR CONSCIOUSNESS

In addition to memories and photos, travelers can also bring home other valuable souvenirs, such as:

**Cultural Understanding**

Spending time outside your cultural bubble enhances your awareness of what it means to be from your country, state, or even town—how you speak, eat, build houses, dress, and more.

You begin to see that your “personal” tastes are actually reflections of your background and available resources.

**Accepting Differences**

Traveling to places where life is lived differently—yet successfully—opens your eyes to the multiple effective ways of cooking, working, interacting, and thinking.

This experience fosters a deeper respect for diversity and allows you to return home more open-minded.

**Going Beyond Your Bubble**

The more we experience other cultures, the more inclusive we become regarding pretty much everything:

  • Food
  • Lifestyle
  • Esthetics
  • Art
  • Values
  • Types of entertainment

Respectful interactions with other cultures challenge us to recognize our own biases and prejudices, refining the way we perceive the world and maturing our opinions about it.

A mindful traveler continues to cherish their origins and culture while remaining open to the endless possibilities the world has to offer.

As a Brazilian from Rio, I also appreciate:

📌 Turkish breakfast and hospitality

📌 American competence and enterpreuneship

📌 Nigerian strength and confidence

📌 Canadian politeness

📌 Arabic food

📌 Indian dances and spirituality

📌 French gardens and movies

📌 Argentian sense of humor

📌 Scandinavian thrillers

📌 Peruvian landscapes

📌 Jewish resilience and devotion…

Every new city I visit offers me something unique while helping me detach from what I should no longer hold onto.

  1. You describe the joys and benefits of travel perfectly. I am one of those who like being there, but not getting there (lol). It is remarkable once we become familiar w/ different places and people that we can mange to find the familiar. Cultures may differ, but human beings are alike under the skin. 🙂
