Healing Journal #4 – Coming Home to Yourself (Inner Compass #11)

✨ The Trio Within Us

No matter how grown-up we become, we all carry an inner child within us — a tender, curious, and emotionally reactive part that still yearns for safety, affection, and belonging.

Alongside this child is our inner adult — the version of us responsible for navigating the present, making decisions, solving problems, and holding things together.

And deeper still, beyond roles and wounds, lives what Jung called the Self — our wise, observing essence that holds the potential for healing, integration, and wholeness.

⛔ When these three inner aspects — the child, the adult, and the Self — are disconnected or in conflict, life can feel overwhelming, fragmented, or emotionally unpredictable.

✅ When they are acknowledged and supported, however, we begin to feel emotionally grounded, resilient, and empowered from the inside out.

Modern psychology echoes this too.

Internal Family Systems therapy (IFS) teaches that we all carry multiple “parts” inside us — wounded exiles (like the inner child), protective managers (like the adult), and a core Self that is calm, compassionate, and connected.

Through narrative therapy, we can:

  • Give these parts a voice
  • Let them be heard
  • Help them co-create new, healing stories

This exercise uses storytelling and visualization to help you gently meet these inner parts, understand their needs, and offer support — especially in times of stress, confusion, or emotional pain.

🌿 A Storytelling Practice to Heal the Inner Child, Strengthen the Adult, and Anchor in the Self

🧠 Therapeutic Roots:

  • Jungian Psychology (Carl Jung) – Theory of the Self, individuation, and archetypes
  • Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) – Dr. Richard Schwartz
  • Narrative Therapy – Michael White & David Epston

🌸 Shift Your Mindset

This practice isn’t about perfection or fixing yourself.

It’s about listening — with warmth and curiosity — to the voices within you that were once silenced or burdened.

Over time, this gentle inner council can become your anchor, helping you respond to life with wisdom instead of reaction.

You don’t need to banish parts of yourself to heal.
You only need to invite them in — and stay awhile.
