Inner Compass Gem #16 – Debunking Myths of Emotional Trauma

🎯 Let’s be real—healing isn’t easy. And half the time, it’s not the pain that stops us.

It’s the fears, doubts, and outdated beliefs we’ve picked up along the way.

💖 If you’ve ever felt unsure about starting your emotional healing journey, you’re not alone.

💡 How about clearing up some of those myths to make your journey feel a little lighter?

THE MYTH ABOUT EMOTIONAL TRAUMA

“If I Don’t Think About It, It Will Go Away.”

⚠️ Avoidance doesn’t mean healing—it often means suppression.

🧠 Shift Your Mindset: Trauma lives in the body, not just the mind (as shown by somatic psychology and Bessel van der Kolk’s work).

It resurfaces through triggers, tension, and emotional numbness.

The Truth: Facing your pain slowly and gently allows for integration and healing. It’s brave to feel—and you don’t have to do it alone.

  1. Many well-meaning people will advise abuse survivors not to think about the trauma they endured. As if that were possible. Trauma changes the very structure of the brain. Which is not to say that it cannot be reversed. But healing takes time. And suppression is unhelpful.
