The Gifts of Therapeutic Bonding

I had been in therapy for a few months, and the sessions were very intense.

While I knew they were helping me a lot, I also began to feel overwhelmed by everything I had to process.

Because of my difficulty identifying emotions, my therapist suggested painting as a way to release feelings and access my unconscious mind.

I thought it was a great idea. Restarting painting brought back happy memories from my childhood.

But what I loved most about this suggestion was what happened next.

My therapist bought me a folder to keep my paintings in and asked for my address so she could send it to me.

When the delivery person pressed the intercom and I received the package, I felt genuinely cared for by someone I was still getting to know and learning to trust.

This may seem trivial and irrelevant, but it wasn’t.

The power of that gesture in helping me open up again was immense.

I returned to my apartment with a smile on my face and a heart full of tenderness and gratitude.

This is what a good therapist can do for you.

Therapy isn’t just about telling your stories and venting; it’s about creating a real bond between two human beings.

Through this bond and the therapist’s techniques, we can heal from our traumas, improve our social skills, and, most importantly, get to know ourselves deeply.

This helps us manage our emotions, thoughts, and everyday challenges better.

Among the many investments I make in myself, therapy is one of my favorites.

Even though I’ve learned to deal with most of my issues on my own, I still appreciate having someone to rely on during this journey.

As the African proverb says:

“If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” If you want to go far, go together”
