  2. Often the painful memories the body retains of past experiences are best suppressed. That, at least, is what we may conclude. Unfortunately, that means we distance ourselves from our bodies. The physical becomes secondary, if not repulsive. We live instead inside our heads. It is a hollow existence.

    1. Well, suppression has its benefits, but I think the true solution is a safe elaboration and integration of the traumatic experience (when we’re ready). Once we safely feel, process, and release these painful experiences, we are no longer controlled by it.

      Somatic therapy (grounding, body scan, movement, and breathwork) is a great healing tool.
